Headache
The headache is one of the most common things experienced by many people in all the time frames. It is defined by experts as the pain felt in the head and/or upper neck. As a matter of fact, the head is the body part that is commonly associated with pain.
Why the Head Aches
Headaches come a dime a dozen. It should be noted that the path as to why it happens basically is due to an increase in the pressure inside the cranium or the insides of the skull. Medically speaking, the insides of the skull must all be in a state where they are able to keep the intracranial pressure well within the normal range. Once the pressure goes up or increases, its effects will follow which includes the number one symptom which is head pains.
Causes of a Headache
Basically, there are two main reasons why a person experiences pain in the head part. One is the primary which means that the pain is not associated with any other type of medical condition. The other is secondary which means that the pain is experienced as a result of another medical problem such as infection, tumor, head trauma, dental problems, and the like.
Of the two, the primary reason is further divided into three causes. The first in the list is tension. This is the type that is caused by increased muscle strains in the neck or head or even can be caused by emotional stress. When experienced, this produces a dull but steady ache.
The second in the list is cluster headache. This is the type that is experienced for weeks to months and even years. Although the causes for it is still unknown, there are experts who say that it can be due to changes in the blood flow to the head area because of certain factors such as food and alcohol. When experienced, this is the type where the individual will feel pain on one side of the head and centers around an eye.
The third in the list is migraine headaches. This is caused by a decreased blood flow to a specific part of the brain called the cerebral cortex. When a person has a migraine, he will experience not only an intense and throbbing pain on one side of his head, but also increased sensitivity to light and other external stimuli. There are some who even become nauseated and vomit when having this kind of head pain.
How to Get Rid of It
There are several ways on how to get rid of a headache. The very first would be to take a rest or relax. Another would be to take pain reliever. Therapies such as biofeedback and acupuncture can also provide relief if not preventive measures against it.
